Hip Hop 4 Schools is an organisation set up to gain greater profile for the
use of hip hop in schools.
We live in an educational climate in which teachers can struggle vainly to get
boys into literacy in the classroom; and in which the same boys will spend their
break and lunchtimes feverishly devising rhymes for raps they are writing.
Hip Hop has an amazing amount to offer schools. It is a genre and a subculture
that a vast amount of our young people relate to and take meaning from. And,
most importantly, it is a literate subculture. Rap is merely poetry recited over
a beat: all the poetic devices are catered for in a great hip hop tune; and many
of its finer practitioners are experts in experts in scansion, alliteration and
enjambment.
What is more, hip hop artists can provide phenomenal role models for young
people. Many of the artists you will find on this site have had troubled back
stories, which they have overcome through discipline, dedication and devotion to
their passion.
The
artists at Hip Hop 4 Schools are amongst the most famous and celebrated on the
UK Hip Hop scene. We have researched them thoroughly and believe they, in
particular have much to offer, be it sessions on poetry, on writing, on mixing,
rapping, performance; even on setting up your own business. They are able to
come into schools and deliver inspiring messages, (for an hour, a morning, or a
day) or even, where the need for this is great, to provide personal mentoring
for young people.
If you have an enquiry about how incorporating Hip Hop could benefit the kids in
your school or educational establishment, please contact us.
